In response to pressing global challenges, the SUSTAINET_guarDian project is dedicated to advancing a digital and sustainable future through innovative technological solutions. With a focus on enhancing network resilience and security, as well as energy efficiency, the initiative aims to ensure seamless interconnectivity, which is essential for meeting the evolving demands of a digital society. The project is the center pillar of the SUSTAINET structure, which constitutes the CELTIC-NEXT flagship.
To realize this vision, the project emphasizes the critical role of research in information and communications technology (ICT) hardware and control software. Furthermore, it acknowledges the urgent need for secure networks capable of withstanding emerging cybersecurity threats while ensuring uninterrupted communication, e.g., during crises. The initiative also highlights the importance of creating sustainable telecommunication systems that can adapt to the variability of renewable energy sources, contributing to a climate-neutral future. Through collaborative research and development, the project aims to drive innovation and build partnerships across industries, paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable global communication landscape.
Within the project, COMSYS aims to develop an autonomous information security orchestration infrastructure that protects communication flows according to their respective security requirements. Furthermore, COMSYS strives to research aspects of green networkig and integrate them into the infrastructure, enabling the optimization of next-generation networks with regards to their sustainability.
More information is available on the project website. The funding initially runs from 2025 to 2027.
