COMSYS @ ACM Sustainability Week 2026

COMSYS presented recent work in improving load monitoring at ACM’s inaugural Sustainability Week in Banff, Canada.

In June, COMSYS researcher Justus Breyer took part in the inaugural ACM Sustainability Week, co-locating the 13th ACM International Conference on Systems for Energy-Efficient Buildings, Cities, and Transportation (BuildSys 2026) and the 17th ACM International Conference on Future and Sustainable Energy Systems (ACM e-Energy 2026 in Banff, Canada. The venue was a great opportunity to discuss research focusing on sustainability in the built environment and energy saving strategies, aiming to combat climate change without loss in comfort in our everyday life. This year’s focus of interest lied on opportunities to handle the increasing demands on the grid induced by datacenters as well as improving the efficiency of HVAC systems. Justus presented the outcome of his recent research in home energy monitoring: To increase the performance of non-intrusive load monitoring systems, additional sensor data, such as water consumption and whole-home reactive power, were incorporated into their model.

During his conference travel, Justus also fostered our ongoing collaboration efforts with Romaric Duvignau from Chalmers University, who last year went for a visit at COMSYS.
