COMSYS @ NOMS 2025

COMSYS was back at this year’s edition of NOMS with three of our researchers giving four presentations.
Following COMSYS’s fruitful participation in last year’s IEEE Network Operations and Management Symposium (NOMS 2024), Ina Fink, Ike Kunze, and Jan Pennekamp joined this year’s edition of NOMS in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA in mid May, giving a total of four presentations on different topics, representing the broad research portfolio of our chair. Ina presented her work on evaluating different transport layer protocols for Smart Grid communication, a contribution to our VeN2uS research project. She further introduced HybridMon, a novel hybrid network monitoring approach that combines condensed packet-level monitoring with selective flow-based aggregation and had been started in our Research Focus Class on In-Network Processing with additional contributions as part of our university’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP International). Ike continued and extended his work from last year with his latest contribution on queuing approaches that leverage actual flow behavior. Finally, Jan shared ConfMod with the 6th Workshop on Management for Industry 5.0 (MFI5.0), further broadening his collaborations in the context of the Internet of Production. Overall, NOMS was again a great platform for advancing our research on communication technologies, network operation, and collaboration approaches, and we look forward to maintaining our presence in this valuable community in the future.
In addition to its enganging scientific program, NOMS also gave our researchers the opportunity to immerse themselves in the warm and friendly culture of the Polynesian people while exploring the diverse landscapes of Hawaii’s four largest islands, with a surprise fireworks display serving as a fitting conclusion of the conference banquet. Mahalo for the great experience and until next time, Hawaii!
