COMSYS student attending ICLR 2025

This week, former COMSYS student Benedikt von Querfurth presented our recent work “Transformer-Based Integrative Patient Representations from Single-Cell RNA Data” at the “Learning Meaningful Representations of Life” workshop during ICLR 2025 in Singapore.

Attending the premier venue on representation learning, Benedikt took the opportunity to engage in vivid discussions with reviewers and attendees alike, and returns with a whole bag of ideas and contacts from Singapore. The paper itself stems from initial ideas developed during last year’s Research Oriented Focus class on medical data privacy under supervision of Sikander Hayat, Jan, and Johannes and is part of the ongoing RUST project, in collaboration with the University Hospital of RWTH Aachen.

Benedikt’s week-long participation in the workshop and conference provided an excellent opportunity to network with researchers from around the globe. Beyond the academic sessions, he also took time to explore Singapore, enjoying the vibrant city and its unique culture. The positive feedback and insights gained during the event will contribute to this interdisciplinary research effort.
