Jan Pennekamp named KT Boost Fund Fellow 2025

COMSYS researcher Dr. Jan Pennekamp has been selected as one out of 15 KT Boost Fund Fellows in 2025, and starting from June 2025, he will be supported with funding for two years. Congratulations!
The Klaus Tschira Boost fund is a prestigious program jointly run by GSO and Klaus Tschira Stiftung. It is designed to support early-career scientists by allowing them to pursue ambitious, exploratory, and interdisciplinary projects. This flexible funding should also contribute to the fellows’ career development.
Jan’s research topic is on synthetic data generation and data fidelity checks in healthcare (in collaboration with RWTH Aachen University Hospital). Specifically, since utilizing personal healthcare data promises significant benefits for individuals and the society alike, understanding and evaluating such practices is an important undertaking. In the past, research has suggested substituting or complementing real patient data with synthetic data. However, so far, the implications of these actions are underexplored. The project’s starting point is that diverse (privacy) risks are to be expected, and Jan’s research intends to close this research gap by studying whether real patient data and synthetic data yield identical (or at least comparable) research findings. This approach may shed some light on current practices and hopefully also provide a good basis for future research activities.
More information about the fellowship and other fellows of the program is available at GSO and in the RWTH press release.
