COMSYS student Jan Pennekamp awarded with TDWI Award 2018

For his Master thesis "Uncovering Doppelgängers in Online Communities", COMSYS student, and now researcher, Jan Pennekamp was awarded the TDWI Award 2018 for the best thesis in the area of analytics, big data, and business intelligence.

Origin of photo material: TDWI e.V.

The award is presented by the TDWI e.V., the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, the Chemnitz University of Technology and the INFOMOTION GmbH as part of the TDWI Munich 2018 conference. The INFOMOTION GmbH funds prize money of 2000 Euro for the first place.
Jan's thesis investigates the detection of doppelgänger accounts based on stylometric features (e.g., usage frequency of characters, ...) mainly on user comments that are published on news websites (e.g., the Guardian, SPIEGEL ONLINE) to uncover potential opinion manipulation. Jan created his thesis as part of a joint work from COMSYS and the SECAN-Lab of the University of Luxembourg. He was advised by Dr. Oliver Hohlfeld, head of Network Architectures Group at COMSYS, and Dr. Andriy Panchenko, deputy head of the SECAN-Lab.

The whole COMSYS team congratulates Jan to this success!
